SARHAD KARGIL INTERNATIONAL MARATHON

ABOUT KARGIL

Kargil is one of the two districts of Ladakh UT and is the second largest town of Ladakh. Kargil has always been an important trade centre in the past.

Kargil regained its significance when the area was thrown open for Tourists in the year 1974 .

The District again came in spotlight during the Indo- Pak conflict in 1999 as it remained in the headlines of National and International media. Some sites such as Tiger Hill, Tololing, Mushku valley and Batalik have become very popular since then.

Hon.Shri Narendra Modi

-PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA

The adoption of children from Kargil and the organization of 120-kilometer Kargil International Marathon are steps that will go a long way in helping to appreciate Kargil in a new light. The serene, pollution-free environs of the region, coupled with the cool climate are a major attraction.

Gen. Ved Prakash Malik (Retd)

-Former Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army

Even since Kargil war, I have been associated with ‘Sarhad’, the NGO working from Pune, in Kargil, and many other parts of Jammu & Kashmir. Their efforts to rebuild and rejuvenate the local population of Kargil which had suffered heavily during the war have been praiseworthy. Their latest initiative to hold the Kargil Marathon with the support of local population and Indian Army is commendable

Hon. Shri Sushilkumar Shinde

-Former Union Minister of Home Affairs

Having been associated with Sarhad for long, I convey my good wishes to Sarhad for coming out with this praiseworthy book, and also their annual Kargil International Marathon, both of which will go a long way in kindling curiosity about Kargil, not only in a common India traveler but also their friends and families abroad
